1515 Lincoln Gallery invites you to experience the works of Tunde Darvay and John Wolfe at their joint exhibition Local Spaces / Cosmopolitan Visions and A Place Behind the Sun. The shared exposition features Darvay's whimsical paintings on uniquely shaped wood surfaces and Wolfe's daring sculptures crafted from found wood, steel, and ceramic pieces.  We invite you to "Meet the Artists" on Friday, April 14th, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. to engage in intimate conversations with Tunde and John about their work.

Tunde Darvay | Local Spaces / Cosmopolitan Visions

North Carolina-based artist Tunde Darvay's imaginative paintings depict a unique cosmogony—a hybrid world of contemporary images, dreams, ecology, and archetypes in search of what is locally and universally human. Growing up in Transylvania, Romania inspired Tunde to pay close attention to the vibrant life surrounding her and express the intersections between local communities and expanding global networks she observes. Darvay states, "There is a two-pronged effect in these new works, which represent at once the warmth and intimacy of local communities and a somewhat broader vision of how this close-knit lifestyle relates to a larger, more cosmopolitan and more disaggregated community."

John Wolfe | A Place Behind the Sun

Distinct discoveries and subtle influences shaped the sculptures featured in Oklahoma-based artist John Wolfe's A Place Behind the Sun. While visiting a workshop of a wood-turner friend Wolfe saw a scrap bin filled with remnants from several wood varieties of various shapes and sizes. The ordinary discovery sparked ideas about how the forms could create sculptures. Wolfe states, "In my most recent series, I had incorporated steel and ceramic with wood, so this seemed like a logical continuation with the addition of color." After selecting his scraps, he created initial sketches one afternoon in Taos, New Mexico. He intended to minimalize the creative elements to express more with less. When he returned home to Oklahoma, he made several alterations and refinements to create stunning works for his new series.
